Delitzsch (dpa/sn) – The mayor of Delitzsch considers the location of a large research center in the city to be an epochal decision, but does not want to associate too high expectations with it. He expects that in the initial phase of the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC), maybe ten percent of the employees will move to Delitzsch, said Manfred Wilde in the dpa interview. There will also be commuters and in international research it is normal anyway for top researchers to change after three to five years.
The non-partisan city manager rather expects that the academic middle faculty will decide in favor of Delitzsch. “I don’t think we have the worst conditions when it comes to the quality of life for families,” he said. But Delitzsch already has a positive population development. There are hardly any building plots left. Wilde also expects a general image gain for the city. He hopes that Delitzsch’s name will spread a little bit out into the world.
The federal government wants to support the settlement of two large research centers with 1.2 billion euros each. This is a contribution to structural change in the Central German and Lusatian lignite mining area. In addition to the CTC in Delitzsch, the German Research Center for Astrophysics (DZA) is being built with its headquarters in Görlitz. Construction is expected to start in 2026 at the earliest.
