Erfurt (dpa/th) – Young people with mental disabilities and their families used offers of help more frequently in the past year. Compared to the previous year, the number of so-called integration aids in 2021 increased by around 11.5 percent to 2506 in Thuringia, the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday. At 22,991, educational assistance was used by around one percent more.

Public and independent providers offer this help for young people who are restricted, for example, by mental illness or addiction. It was said that the most frequent use of educational advice was in the past year. But also residential care and other forms of assisted living are among the offers.

However, the number of children, adolescents and young adults for whom educational assistance was granted fell slightly to 26,407 (minus 0.1 percent). Around half of the child-raising support granted (48.4 percent) was for the young people living with a single parent.
