Augsburg (dpa/lby) – In view of the energy crisis, the Bavarian FDP is calling for the Gundremmingen nuclear power plant to be put back into operation. “We should definitely check whether the Gundremmingen nuclear power plant can go back online,” said FDP state chairman Martin Hagen of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Monday). The Gundremmingen nuclear power plant went offline at the turn of the year 2021/2022. Hagen said that where possible, all available capacity should be put into operation, including all nuclear power plants that went offline in 2021. “The next winter will be tough.”
Certain technical aspects currently speak against a rapid start-up of the Gundremmingen nuclear power plant. “But that’s nothing that can’t be solved within a few months,” said Hagen. Germany will no longer purchase gas from Russia next year. That is why Germany must pull out all the stops to ensure a secure and affordable energy supply. “Of course, this also means that we leave the nuclear power plants connected to the grid longer,” said the FDP politician. The nuclear power plants should run beyond 2023.
