Heatwave vigilance extends over a large part of France for this Sunday. Météo-France placed, on Saturday August 19, 49 departments on orange vigilance – against 28 this Saturday – and 13 on yellow vigilance. Only the northern part of the country is spared for the moment. Andorra is also affected by the alert.

The 21 departments concerned are, in addition to Andorra: Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Ariège, Aude, Bouches-du-Rhône, Charente, Cher, Haute-Corse, Dordogne, Gard , Gironde, Hérault, Indre, Landes, Lozère, Pyrénées-Orientales, Bas-Rhin, Var, Vaucluse and Haute-Vienne. They join these territories: Ain, Allier, Ardèche, Aveyron, Cantal, Corrèze, Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Drôme, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Isère, Jura, Loire, Haute-Loire, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne , Nièvre, Puy-de-Dôme, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne and Territoire de Belfort.

Over western Brittany and near the English Channel, the afternoon will remain breathable with 21 to 26 degrees. From the Pays de la Loire to the north of the Seine as well as on the Aquitaine coast, Météo-France forecasts maximums of 27 to 32 degrees in general. Elsewhere, thermometers will climb between 32 and 37 degrees, up to 37 to 39 in Occitania and from Rhône-Alpes to Provence. We will locally reach the 40 degrees of the middle Rhone valley inside Gard and Provence.

This exceptional increase in heat is taken very seriously by the government. Elisabeth Borne led an interministerial crisis unit on Thursday, and called for vigilance.
