Two standout cricket players, Charlie Dean and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, are bidding farewell to the Southern Vipers after contributing to the club’s impressive five-trophy run.
Charlie Dean, an off-spinning all-rounder who has been with Hampshire since she was just 13, has played a crucial role in the Vipers’ success from 2020 to 2024. She made her England debut in September 2021 and holds the title of the fastest woman to reach 50 ODI wickets in just 26 matches.
On the other hand, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who joined the Vipers in 2017, has been a key player for the team, scoring 1,756 runs, the second most in the club’s history. She is England Women’s all-time leading IT20 run scorer and the only England woman to have scored more than one IT20 century. Wyatt-Hodge has also been capped 278 times for England and was part of the squad that secured the ODI World Cup in 2017.
Both players expressed their gratitude for their time with the Vipers. Dean acknowledged the role of Hampshire and the Vipers in her cricketing journey, emphasizing the incredible successes achieved as a team. Wyatt-Hodge, who debuted for England in 2010, reflected on her amazing eight years at Utilita Bowl with the Vipers and expressed her fondness for the team and the success they shared.
Adam Carty, the regional director of women’s cricket, praised the contributions of Charlie and Danni to the team’s achievements over the past five seasons. He highlighted the significance of their roles in shaping the region’s success and expressed gratitude for their efforts. Carty wished them well in their future international and domestic careers as they embark on new chapters in their cricketing journey.
The departure of these two Viper champions marks a new era in women’s professional cricket, showcasing the evolution of the sport and the impact of individual players on the success of their teams. As they move on to new opportunities, their legacy at the Southern Vipers will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
