The number of Ukrainian and Russian soldiers killed or wounded since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022 is approaching 500,000, the New York Times reported, citing unnamed US officials.
Russian military casualties are approaching 300,000, including up to 120,000 killed and between 170,000 and 180,000 wounded, the newspaper reported. Ukrainian casualties are approaching 70,000, with between 100,000 and 120,000 wounded, he added.
The last public estimate of casualties from the Biden administration came in November, and it stood at about 100,000 soldiers killed or wounded on each side since the start of the war.
Casualty figures are difficult to quantify because Moscow is believed to underestimate the number of war dead and wounded, and kyiv does not release official figures.
