Meiningen (dpa/th) – After a sharp increase in new infections with the corona virus and numerous hospitalizations of Covid 19 patients, the crisis team of the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district warns of a further deterioration in the situation. The background to this is the temporary freeze on admission for new patients by the Helios Klinikum, as the district office announced on Friday. In the meantime, almost 70 patients with corona and numerous other intensive care patients have been treated in the clinic, and the facility itself is struggling with staff shortages.
The corona incidence, which indicates the weekly number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, was 960 in the district on Friday according to figures from the ministry and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), making it the highest in the state. Further talks are planned in the near future to improve the discharge management of patients who are corona positive but for whom there is no indication for an inpatient stay.
