Leipzig (dpa / sn) – The former Brandenburg Science Minister Martina Münch (SPD) has been elected social affairs officer in Leipzig in the second attempt. Unlike the first attempt four weeks ago, the 60-year-old received enough votes in the first ballot, as the city administration announced. A rival candidate from the AfD had no chance. The doctor should take up the post on December 1st.

In September, Münch failed in two more ballots in the city council. Afterwards, representatives of the SPD and the left accused the Greens of voting no, like the AfD, and thus preventing Münch. Leipzig’s Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) had now proposed his party colleague again for election.
