Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz has rejected a quick, large relief package for Baden-Württemberg. The federal and state governments must act together in this serious energy crisis, said the Green politician on Wednesday in the state parliament in Stuttgart. “I am convinced that it is not helpful for the federal states to go it alone.” In this crisis, the country needs staying power and has to make financial provisions. “We will not overcome this energy crisis with flashes in the pan,” Bayaz countered with the SPD faction, which had called for a quick relief package in the country. However, the minister also said: If the federal package has “blind spots”, one is prepared to make adjustments. “But purposefully, not with a watering can.”

It is important to wait and see what the talks between the federal and state governments about the third relief package will reveal. Here the costs for the state and the municipalities in the southwest amount to 4.8 billion euros.

Bayaz also wants to wait for the results of the tax estimate at the end of October. In the first half of the year, the country took in 1.5 billion euros more from VAT due to high inflation. But meanwhile all economic experts reckoned with a recession. It could also lead to a drop in tax revenue. “The question is not how much money do we have anymore, but are we able to handle the relief package,” said Bayaz.
