Heilbronn (dpa / lsw) – Municipal council president Steffen Jäger demands that no more referendums are allowed in the expansion of renewable energies. “I realize that although there is often broad approval in society for necessary infrastructure projects, implementation on site is often highly controversial.” This also applies in particular to the settlement of renewable energies. He is therefore in favor of changing the municipal code in such a way that referendums in this area are no longer possible. There is an overriding interest in the expansion of renewables, said Jäger of the “Heilbronner Voice” (Saturday).

The state parliament of Baden-Württemberg could enshrine this in the municipal code by law. “I can also imagine extending this regulation to residential construction, the expansion of digital infrastructure or other infrastructure projects,” said Jäger. The regulation is urgently needed because otherwise the necessary transformation towards future infrastructure cannot be successfully managed.
