Actually, video games “on demand” should be the future of the industry. However, Google burns its fingers with its video game streaming service Stadia. The service will now be discontinued at the beginning of 2023.

Google has declared its foray into the online video game business a failure. The internet giant is shutting down its games streaming service Stadia. With such offers, the video games do not run on the users’ PCs or consoles, but on the providers’ servers on the Internet and are controlled using fast lines. The solutions are considered by many experts to be the future of the games industry.

“A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service called Stadia,” Google said in a statement. Although Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers is built on a strong technological foundation, it hasn’t garnered the expected appeal among users. Therefore, the difficult decision would have been made to stop the streaming service.

With Stadia, Google was a pioneer in such services, which are also available from Microsoft with the Xbox gaming platform and the graphics card specialist Nvidia. Customers will be able to use their games until January 18 next year and should be reimbursed for expenses.

The Google developer studio created for Stadia was closed again in February 2021. Google recruited top-class developers from other studios especially for the studio. In March 2022, Google then announced that Stadia’s streaming technology would be marketed to other companies.

Google wants to continue to devote itself to gaming “and invest in new tools, technologies and platforms that promote the success of developers, industry partners, cloud customers and creative people”. The group is very grateful for the “groundbreaking work” of the Stadia team.
