Garitz (dpa/sa) – The renowned British artist Tony Cragg designed windows and an altar for the village church of Garitz. The works were created as part of the project “Lichtungen – contemporary glass painting in Anhalt”. Windows by contemporary artists have already been installed in over 30 historic churches.

According to the Evangelische Landeskirche Anhalt, the colors of the windows in Garitz refer to the red basic color of the altar. The altar table is made of red Italian marble. “Balls and their orbits make you think of the universe. Cragg deals with the relationship between science and faith,” it said in a statement.

According to the information, the Garitz village church was built around 1300 as a small hall building made of field stones. The baptismal font and the bell have been preserved from this period. Inside, Baroque elements dominate. Garitz belongs to the town of Zerbst in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld.
