Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – After a serious traffic accident with two fatalities, a 32-year-old truck driver has had to answer to the Frankfurt District Court since Friday. The accused is accused of having collided with two breakdown cars standing on the hard shoulder on the hard shoulder on the A3 near Frankfurt Airport without braking at a speed of 90 km/h. The drivers of both cars died from their serious injuries after the incident in May last year.
In court, the accused spoke of memory gaps. He could not explain why the heavy truck with a trailer had drifted to the right. Apparently, a corresponding warning device in the truck did not work. However, according to an expert’s report, the vehicle was in a technically perfect condition. Because the expert could not be present in court and witnesses are still to be heard, two further hearing dates were scheduled. The process is expected to end in mid-October.
