Dresden (dpa/sn) – The young German author Lily S. Morgan has won the Saxon Book Summer Readers’ Prize 2022 with her debut novel “City of Burning Wings – The Ash Warrior”. The book “clearly” prevailed against nine other nominated titles, as announced by the Ministry of Culture and the Library Association of Saxony on Friday in Dresden. The non-endowed award is linked to a reading tour and will be presented on Saturday in the city library in Döbeln (Central Saxony).

Since 2012, the Book Summer for eleven to 16 year olds has been promoting reading in public libraries during the summer holidays. According to its own statements, the ministry made around 140,000 euros available this time. Since 2018, children and young people have also been able to vote for their favourites.

Morgan, born in Heidenheim (Baden-Württemberg) in 1990, convinced with the story of the young warrior May in Elydor, who spent her whole life preparing for the ascent to the throne of ashes. But when the king dies, the ruler’s rune does not appear on her, but on the forehead of Luan from the slum. And May is supposed to help him deal with his newfound power – she only reluctantly accepts the deal.
