Leipzig (dpa / sn) – After the death of a 36-year-old man during a police operation in Leipzig, two police officers from the Leipzig police department are being investigated. The Dresden police department took over the investigation on Thursday, the Leipzig public prosecutor announced on Thursday evening. This had previously initiated an investigation due to the initial suspicion of a homicide.

According to the police, on Wednesday afternoon during the search in the Paunsdorf district of Leipzig, there was a “threatening operational situation” and the police officers “used firearms”. Details were initially unclear. “We currently do not have the results of today’s autopsy,” said senior public prosecutor Ricardo Schulz of the German Press Agency. Sometimes not all officials have been questioned and the results of securing evidence are not yet available, which is why he cannot provide any further details, according to the senior public prosecutor.

The 36-year-old was suspected of having something to do with robberies in a supermarket. In this context, the police wanted to search the apartment where the man was staying.
