Neustadt-Glewe (dpa/mv) – The police arrested a drunk truck driver on the Autobahn 24 near Wittenburg (Ludwigslust-Parchim), who is said to have previously caused major damage at a motorway service station. As a police spokesman said, the 54-year-old severely damaged at least one gas pump while maneuvering the truck on Tuesday at the gas station site in Neustadt-Glewe. The damage was estimated at 35,000 euros.
The employees stopped the driver, who was still maneuvering the vehicle, confronted him, took his data and smelled the smell of alcohol. In the meantime, however, the truck had already continued west on the A24.
At a rest area about 45 kilometers away, the officers saw and checked the driver they were looking for. The man’s breath alcohol level was 1.2 per mille. The police confiscated the driver’s license and the car keys of the man, who now has to reckon with further investigations.
