Rudolstadt (dpa/th) – At the end of this year’s Rudolstadt bird shooting on Sunday, the organizers drew a positive balance. An estimated half a million guests came to the 300th edition of Thuringia’s largest folk festival. After the compulsory Corona break, significantly more visitors found their way to the bleaching meadow than in previous years, said event manager Frank Grünert. The more than 80 showmen were overwhelmed by the rush.

For more than a week, in addition to the classic fairground rides, nostalgic show booths, a 65-metre-high looping carousel and a large wild water ride attracted visitors to the bleach meadow. Traditionally, at the end of the festival, a wooden bird is shot.

The Rudolstadt bird shooting was first held on August 28, 1722. Both Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller, who belonged to the Rudolstadt riflemen’s guild, are said to have been enthusiastic visitors to the folk festival.
