One person died in an accident at a level crossing in Rastede in the Ammerland district. A train hit a truck on Wednesday afternoon, said a fire department spokesman. The truck driver was thrown out of his cab by the impact and died at the scene of the accident despite several attempts to revive him. According to the fire department, there were around 200 passengers on the train. About 50 of them were traumatized by the accident. Around 150 emergency services worked at the site.
According to the fire department spokesman, the traffic control at the level crossing was operated manually at the time of the accident due to construction work. According to a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn, it was a NordWestBahn train. The route in the area was closed.
