Stralsund (dpa / mv) – A woman from Stralsund has lost 35,000 euros to tricksters. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, the 65-year-old fell victim to the so-called shock call scam. Unknown people had told her on her mobile phone on Monday that her daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident and was in custody. The daughter could be released against an alleged bail of 35,000 euros.

The shocked callee went to two banks to get the money together and handed it over to a messenger near the district court on Monday. Only after that did it become known that the scammers had already contacted the grandmother beforehand. However, she had referred the callers to her daughter, i.e. the 65-year-old, and also told them the cell phone number of the woman from Stralsund.

The grandmother also texted the real granddaughter. But according to the police, she only answered when the money had already been handed over. That’s how the whole thing blew up. The police warn again and again against such tricks of the scammers. Investigators are now hoping that someone saw the money handover and could provide information.
