Halle/Leipzig (dpa/sn) – The Leipzig cargo airline CLG is ceasing operations because of the sanctions against Russia. According to the insolvency administrator Lucas Flöther from Halle, it has not yet been possible to find an investor, as a spokesman for the insolvency administrator announced on Tuesday. All employees are expected to be laid off this week. The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung had previously reported (Tuesday).

Accordingly, the Federal Aviation Office had already decided at the beginning of March that the company’s four machines were no longer allowed to take off. The reason for the closure is related to the airline’s ownership structure. CLG is a wholly owned subsidiary of British Cargo-Logic Holding. Its owner is a Russian who is on the European Union’s sanctions list. CLG filed for bankruptcy in May.

“There were also a number of interested parties, many of whom withdrew due to the unclear sanctions situation,” Flöther told the newspaper. In talks with the Federal Ministry of Transport, it was achieved that the insolvent airline was removed from the sanctions list. But there is now a lack of money and investors for the continuation. CLG has around 100 employees and mainly flew for the logistics company DHL, which operates its European logistics hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
