Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) – Eleonore Wiedenroth-Coulibaly, co-founder of the anti-racist initiative Black People in Germany (isd), receives the Tony Sender Prize from the city of Frankfurt. The EUR 10,000 prize commemorates the politician Tony Sender (1888-1964), who was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Reichstag before the Nazis seized power. The award will be presented at a ceremony on October 14th. “Eleonore Wiedenroth-Coulibaly lives the combination of anti-racist and feminist work in a special way,” said the jury’s decision, which was announced on Monday. “For more than 35 years she has been working on imparting knowledge and language and has actively shaped the history of feminist and black movements in Frankfurt.”
The jury chairwoman, Rosemarie Heilig (Greens), honored the Wiesbaden-born award winner as “initiator, comrade-in-arms, companion and role model for many women and girls”. The prize is awarded every two years. It should recognize achievements “that serve to implement the constitutional requirement of equal rights for men and women and counteract the disadvantage and discrimination of women”.
