Actually, she had already said goodbye to her well-deserved retirement in 2020 with her album “I Owe It All To You”. But for the famous secret agent James Bond, British singer Dame Shirley Bassey returns to the stage for the second time this year. On October 4, the 85-year-old will perform at a gala celebrating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond films at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Bassey sang the theme songs for the 007 film classics “Goldfinger” (1964), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971) and “Moonraker” (1979). Earlier in the year, Dame Shirley had taken a break from retirement to sing “Diamonds Are Forever” at the British Film Awards ceremony, known as the Bafta.
At the gala in October, which is curated by Bond soundtrack composer David Arnold (“Casino Royale”) under the title “The Sound Of 007 In Concert”, alongside the band Garbage (Bond song: “The World Is Not Enough”), the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the singer Celeste expect further well-known guests, which will be announced at a later date.
007 is celebrated big
To mark the 007 anniversary, numerous events related to the famous secret agent will take place in the first week of October, including an auction of original film props.
On October 5, 1962, the first James Bond film “Dr. No” celebrated its world premiere with Sean Connery in London. Last year saw the release of the 25th official film in the series – ‘No Time To Die’ was the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig. According to the producers, the search for a successor has not yet begun.
