Römhild (dpa/th) – A burning baler has triggered a field fire in the district of Hildburghausen – more than 500 square meters have burned down. A tractor driver pressed straw bales with the attached machine at Römhild on Sunday evening when smoke suddenly rose from the machine, the police said on Monday. He was unable to put out the flames alone. According to the police, other employees of an agricultural cooperative helped him to pull a protective strip around the burning baler until the fire brigade arrived. Fire brigades from seven surrounding towns were deployed. The damage caused to the field and machine was estimated at around 60,000 euros.
