Ueckermünde (dpa / mv) – A man wanted by an arrest warrant drove a van into scrap in Ueckermünde (Western Pomerania-Greifswald) and was caught by the police. As a police spokesman said on Monday, the 41-year-old man missed a larger roundabout on Landesstraße 31 on Sunday night and drove straight there. The transporter hit some barriers and traffic signs and only came to a stop several meters later on the traffic island in front of a boat set up there. The driver and his 18-year-old passenger were injured.

When the accident was recorded, the arrest warrant was known and the smell of alcohol was noticed. A breath alcohol test showed the man was 1.6 per thousand. He and his passenger were taken to a hospital. The 41-year-old was later arrested. The property damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros. The van was totaled.
