Ilmenau (dpa/th) – The flow researcher Jörg Schumacher from the Technical University of Ilmenau will receive funding from the European Union in the amount of 2.5 million euros for the next five years. With the money, the scientist can use super and quantum computers to calculate and analyze currents on the sun’s surface, the university announced on Thursday. The increased use of artificial intelligence in this branch of research could lead to improved models of solar activity and thus to more precise weather and climate forecasts, it said. The planned project is scheduled to start in January 2023.
