In the event of an accident, the police are usually called to record the process. But sometimes the police themselves are involved.
Erfurt (dpa/th) – Last year, 434 accidents involving Thuringian police vehicles were recorded. In the pre-Corona year 2019 there were 305 accidents, as the State Police Directorate announced on request. According to the information, the damage caused to the police in the traffic accidents was 716,692 euros. In 2019 it was 568,265.20 euros.
According to the State Police Directorate, 284 damages caused by police officers were recorded in the accidents in 2021. A total of 14 police vehicles that had been damaged in accidents were sorted out early last year. According to the information, there was no immediate replacement. “To ensure operational readiness, vehicles planned for separation had to continue to be operated until new vehicles were delivered,” the state police directorate said.
As an explanation, it was said that the delivery dates resulted from the contracts with the vehicle manufacturers and the manufacturers of the bodies. These would have to be agreed in the context of the tender. “Even periodic calls from these contracts have a lead time of at least nine to twelve months.” A timely replacement of the vehicles, some of which deviate far from the series standard, is not feasible.
