Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Baden-Württemberg Minister of Transport, Winfried Hermann, is calling on the traffic light coalition to extend the truck toll to state and municipal roads. After all, truck traffic puts a strain on all parts of the road network, said the Green politician on Friday. The toll extension is the next important step. The federal government must create the legal rules for this.

Hermann confirmed: “As pioneers of climate protection-oriented transport policy, we can certainly imagine paying the truck toll independently.” The state toll rates should then be based on those of the federal government. It is therefore important that the federal toll for trucks contains future-oriented regulations that protect the climate and the environment.

The truck toll was introduced in Germany in 2005 on the federal motorways and has since been extended to all federal roads. It applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 7.5 tons or more.
