Munich (dpa / lby) – Due to a lack of staff, many bakers will have to reduce their opening hours this summer. Restrictions on the offer are also likely, as state guild master Heinz Traublinger said on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Munich handicraft fair. “I know a number of colleagues who actually close their shops in the afternoon at 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. because they no longer have the people.”

The situation is difficult, said Traublinger. “This will get worse again in August during the holiday season, then there may also be branch closures, at least during the holiday season. There will probably also be discontinuations of one or the other product because it is simply no longer manageable.”

The shortage of skilled workers is a main topic of the fair, the food artisans have had great problems in the search for young people for years. Apart from the personnel problem, the strong increase in raw material and energy prices is also depressing the bakers. “It is of course the case that we cannot pass on the prices. The customer is sensitized.”
