Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) – According to the Heidelberg Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (Ifeu), energy-related renovations should be funded, especially if there is a need. The institute is proposing a loan program “for households that cannot afford it and cannot get a loan from their house bank,” said institute director Martin Pehnt of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Tuesday). “I would also advise the country to adapt funding more to need and to get away from the watering can principle.” The new building subsidy should also be completely abolished: “A new building is not a contribution to climate protection.”
There is already money for the insulation of basement ceilings or the replacement of heating systems through federal funding for efficient buildings. Depending on the technology, 35 to 55 percent of the investment sum is provided by the state for a heating replacement. “Nevertheless, costs usually remain in the five-digit range,” said Pehnt. In any case, the fact that many people cannot afford such renovations is socially explosive.
