The EU and the UK are locked in a long-running dispute over Northern Ireland’s post-Brexit trade arrangements.
These arrangements, known as the protocol, keep Northern Ireland in line with EU product standards to prevent the introduction of checks at the border between Northern Ireland (and the Republic of Ireland).
It also establishes checks for goods that are moving from Great Britain (England and Scotland) to Northern Ireland.
Although the existence of the protocol has created tension in Northern Ireland it is possible to reach a solution that will satisfy all parties.
