Munich (dpa / lby) – The Swiss architect Jacques Herzog does not understand Munich’s aversion to high-rise buildings – and believes that the city cannot maintain them in the long term. “I don’t understand it, but I find it an interesting question,” he told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Friday edition). “Munich is actually a much more horizontal city than most other cities in Germany. If you compare Munich with Frankfurt, then after the war the approaches were completely different.”
From today’s perspective, the Munich concept is more successful: “People like it better, the scale is more comfortable.” This may explain the aversion of Munich residents to high-rise buildings. “But Munich has also arrived in the present and can no longer live the old picture one-to-one.”
