Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The puppet theater in Magdeburg gave its open-air court spectacle the title “Fireworks of Love” this year. After the premiere this Friday, 19 more performances are planned until July 24, as the theater announced. A spokeswoman explained that the idea was brought to the house by the “pyromists” Marlis Hirche and Oliver Dassing. They combine pyrotechnic elements with theatre. The puppeteer Hirche and the actor and state-certified pyrotechnician Dassing worked regularly with the puppet theater.

With the court spectacle, this now promises a play about love and with fire with different flame sizes and shapes. Love blazes and goes out – a “fiery collage” is created, inspired by drama and film art. A snooty princess from Grimm’s fairy tales appears, turning the head of a frog. Viewers encounter Anton Chekhov’s enamored bear, the enchanting Gelsomina from Fellini’s classic film “La Strada” and heartbreaking clowns, including Romeo and Juliet.
