Rudolstadt (dpa/th) – According to the responsible foundation, the 200 million euros from the investment program for castle renovation in Thuringia will probably not be enough for all the projects envisaged. The reason for this is the increase in construction prices, said the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation. Proposed projects that have not yet been approved must therefore be postponed for the time being. The special investment program, which will run until around 2027, will be financed in equal parts by the federal and state governments. So far, 22 building projects at 13 palaces and castles have been approved.
Recently, 28 projects were envisaged, as a foundation spokesman said on Tuesday. According to him, the six individual projects that have been shelved are mainly measures for gardens. “What you can do with the money has diminished in scope,” he said. The foundation has to deal with that.
On Monday, the responsible building commission approved work on the castles of Bertholdsburg in Schleusingen and Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt as well as on the moated castle of Kapellendorf (Weimarer Land). This allows the concrete construction planning to start. Interiors in the south and west wings of the Bertholdsburg Palace are to be renovated, and accessibility is also an issue. The columned halls in the south wing of Heidecksburg Palace are to be renovated so that they can later be used by the Rudolstadt State Archives and for events. In the moated castle of Kapellendorf, the task is to secure the substance of the princess building.
