Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – In North Rhine-Westphalia, 6270 children were born last year who were born together with other siblings. The proportion of multiple children among all newborns was 3.6 percent, as reported by the State Statistical Office on Tuesday.

This share was 3.4 percent between 2000 and 2009, and 3.8 percent between 2010 and 2019. The majority of the multiple children born in NRW in 2021 are therefore twins (6124 twin children, 97.7 percent). However, 138 triplets (2.2 percent) and eight other multiple children (0.1 percent) were also born.
