Marktredwitz (dpa / lby) – the smell of gas at a train station in Upper Franconia has called the federal police, fire brigade and police to the scene. According to the police, numerous forces moved out on Monday in Marktredwitz (Wunsiedel district). Rail traffic was interrupted for about two hours in the afternoon, and the station was closed off within a radius of 300 meters. Forces cleared surrounding shops and apartments.

Then the all-clear was given: According to initial findings, a gas transport wagon standing on a track was responsible for the smell of gas. This was emptied but not yet cleaned, said a police spokesman. Presumably because of the heat, residual gas escaped through the pressure relief valves. However, these were not measurable. The emergency services were able to lift the barriers again in the early evening and people were allowed to return to their homes.
