Jena (dpa/th) – The Theaterhaus Jena wants to continue developing new plays in the coming season. “There will be international co-productions again in the next two years,” said Maarten van Otterdijk on Monday in Jena. “And we will continue to play our favorite pieces, our “Jena repertoire”. These are pieces that were well received, but unfortunately far too few people were played due to the corona virus.

Van Otterdijk, a member of the Dutch collective “Wunderbaum”, will stay with the theater after the end of the artistic direction of the collective together with the actress, performer and director Lizzy Timmers. In cooperation with the Theaterhaus-Ensemble they will take over the artistic direction. Timmers will also manage the company together with Mathias Putterer.

The “Ensemble Council” consists of all permanent members of the ensemble. The program for the next two years is to be worked out in weekly meetings with the artistic director and the dramaturg Hannah Baumann. “We believe in this model of participation. We also believe that it can work in other theaters, in smaller ones anyway, but also in larger ones,” said Ensemle council member Henrike Commichau.

The theater did not give a concrete insight into the program for the coming season on Monday. Actress Pina Bergemann from the Ensemble Council emphasized: “We will continue to work documentary. We will continue to develop plays. We will still not play Schiller. No Brecht. And no Goethe. Above all, no Goethe.”
