Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Traumatized war refugees from the Ukraine are to be supported in Baden-Württemberg with various projects. The language barrier in particular, but also the limited capacities in regular therapy places, made rapid help more difficult, said Science Minister Theresa Bauer (Greens). The state wants to support the medical faculties of Heidelberg and Tübingen and the Central Institute for Mental Health (ZI) in Mannheim with a good 161,000 euros.
“All projects are developed and used in close cooperation,” said Bauer. Digitized materials – such as a children’s book – can then be used at all locations.
In Heidelberg, scientists are developing an offer with text and audio files, among other things, that are intended to stabilize and restore self-esteem. Mannheim is working on a mobile translation system for initial psychiatric diagnostics. The aim is to be able to talk to refugees in crisis situations even if the therapists do not speak the language, it said.
A nationwide distribution of the software is not excluded. A children’s book with hands-on pages for refugee boys and girls is being created in Tübingen. An animated film and digital material should also convey knowledge about diseases.
