Nicolas Dupont Aignan, a former presidential candidate, won the 8th constituency in Essonne. He has been a deputy there for 25 years. He won 33.34% of votes in the first round of legislative elections on Sunday. This was ahead of Emilie Chazette Guillet, the Nupes candidate who received 30.50%.

He was defeated in the first round of the presidential election by a candidate from the majority (35.76% vs 29.75%), but he won the second round narrowly by 1,400 votes.

He was not able to feel optimistic about his local score in the presidential elections: he had just over 6% of votes in his constituency. This was three times higher than the national average, but still far below the 18% of its land in 2017.

Jean-Luc Melenchon (a senator from Essonne) achieved a high score in the first round. He was more than 28 percent ahead of Emmanuel Macron. Is Dupont-Aignan still safe if there is a local presence in a historically right-leaning constituency? This legislative election will determine its national audience.

The RN didn’t present a candidate against him, just like five years ago.

In 1997, the sovereignist was elected in this constituency in which Yerres was located. This municipality was also where he served as mayor for over twenty years. He has been reelected twice more in the first round, in 2002 and 2007.

The president of Debout La France presented over 500 candidates from France to the national level with the movement Florian Philippot.
