Greven (dpa / lnw) – A fire destroyed an approximately 100-year-old single-family house in the Steinfurt district. Because the building has wooden intermediate ceilings insulated with straw, the fire brigade warned the population of an odor nuisance caused by the smoke. But there was no health risk.

The extinguishing work presented the fire brigade with challenges on Thursday. Since part of the roof had to be removed to extinguish the fire in the intermediate ceiling, the forces were on duty for many hours, according to a spokeswoman for the district. No one was injured in the fire; the house was badly damaged and no longer habitable. The exact amount of property damage was initially unknown. According to the spokeswoman, the fire broke out in the kitchen.
