Three people were killed and many others were injured by the crash of a regional train in the Bavarian Alps in the south of Germany. This was announced by the local police on Friday, June 3.
Several carriages of the train running between the ski resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich came off the tracks at Burgrain, causing the death of three people and injuring an “unknown number of other passengers”, said in a press release the bavarian police.
Police said that rescue and evacuation operations were continuing apace at the scene. Austria was also able to send assistance.
German media published photos showing the partially derailment of a regional train and wagons in a forest area in a mountainous area. Doctors treated the victims on-the-spot.
At this point, the cause of the accident is unknown as well as the number of injuries. The accident took place approximately ten kilometers from Elmau Castle, where the summit of the G7 leaders will take place at the end June.
This happened two days after the introduction of a monthly pass for 9 euros that allows you to travel by regional train throughout Germany. It is an offer that many Germans have embraced.
