Unna (dpa / lnw) – Large quantities of weapons and ammunition were discovered in the apartment of a deceased in Unna. The explosive ordnance clearance service initially secured war weapons and ammunition on Tuesday, a police spokeswoman reported on Wednesday. Residents of three surrounding houses had previously been evacuated and the street area blocked.

The spokeswoman said it was not yet possible to say exactly which items were found. The eviction continued on Wednesday. Not only in the deceased’s apartment, but also in the basement and garage – sometimes in a chaotic condition – the experts came across pistols, weapon parts and cartridge cases.

After the explosive ordnance clearance service had checked and removed the war weapons in detail, the evacuation of the neighboring houses was lifted again after a short time. The housing association had alerted the police, they wanted to clear the room after the death of the resident.

It was not initially known who exactly the deceased was and why he hoarded the objects. A more detailed investigation of the extensive find has started, and the garage in particular still needs to be examined closely, said the police spokeswoman. There is no danger to residents.
