Rostock (dpa / mv) – Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) has awarded the Hanseatic city of Rostock the title of “tourist location”. This opens up new possibilities for financing the tourism infrastructure, forward-looking offers and the model region project, as Meyer said on Tuesday. Recognized tourism locations are entitled to levy a spa tax for guests, for example. The award was handed over at the annual reception of the Rostock tourist office in Warnemünde.
Rostock is a driving force behind tourism development in MV and is one of the first municipalities in the state to quickly recognize the new prospects brought about by the amended Health Resort Tax Act and immediately took the initiative, said Meyer. The introduction of the new grades should promote the development of infrastructure, mobility and quality.
Rostock’s head of tourism, Matthias Fromm, said that the way was now clear for charging a spa tax throughout Rostock. It is not yet possible to say how high the fee will be. In any case, the additional income should flow into the tourist infrastructure and attractive offers. “That will give Rostock tourism a tailwind.”
