Halle (dpa/sa) – Families in Saxony-Anhalt now have significantly more children than ten years ago. This is the result of figures from the microcensus published by the State Statistical Office on Tuesday. According to this, around 320,000 children lived here last year – that was almost 36,000 children or 13 percent more than in 2011. The count only includes unmarried children who live with their parents.
According to a spokeswoman on Tuesday, the increase is due to both new arrivals and higher birth rates. In total, around 420,000 unmarried people lived with their parents in 2021. Of these people, just over half (55 percent) attended school, and less than a third (29 percent) were under school age. No reliable information is available for the rest of the respondents.
For the microcensus, one in a hundred private households in Saxony-Anhalt is asked about their living conditions every year. It was methodologically redesigned in 2020 and can therefore only be compared to a limited extent with the results of previous years.
