Parchim (dpa / mv) – The district of Ludwigslust-Parchim is fighting the oak processionary moth with a helicopter. The helicopter has been flying over infested trees and spraying a biocide since Tuesday morning, said a spokesman for the district.

Due to poor weather conditions, the start of the campaign on Monday had to be postponed. The weather was very suitable on Tuesday, the spokesman said. During the flights, individual road sections were closed.

The caterpillars of the oak processionary moth have stinging hairs that can cause painful rashes, eye irritation and breathing difficulties, but also dizziness, drowsiness and allergic shock. You should therefore not touch the caterpillars – however, you can also come into contact with stinging hairs through drifts.
