Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – In the southwest, more and more criminals are being released. Reason: You didn’t get a place in the forensic prison. According to the Ministry of Justice, there were a total of 6 in 2020, 32 in 2021 and 20 this year. 82 drug-addicted offenders were hoping for a place in therapy at the end of April – 75 of them would have waited more than three months. Once this period has expired, the offenders can apply for release.
The Ministry of Social Affairs cannot say how many of them could actually be released in the next few weeks or months: “It depends on how many of these detainees apply for release because of excessive organizational detention and how the court then decides in favor of the application becomes.” According to the ministry, the applications are granted by the competent courts in the majority of cases.
In the Southwest there are eight psychiatric centers with 1,000 beds in forensic institutions that are 130 percent occupied. Beds in containers, common rooms and corridors make this possible. The state wants to close gaps with a new building in Schwäbisch Hall (120 places), a new forensic department (70 places) at the only center for psychiatry (ZfP) in Winnenden, which does not have this offer so far, as well as with the expansion of the NDT in Calw and Wiesloch (50 seats each).
