Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz were key figures in the ongoing investigation which has already led to tax evasion and fraud charges against Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the company.

Danielle Filson, spokesperson for Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney, wrote to CBS News: “We are grateful their service.”

“The investigation continues. Filson stated that Filson could not comment further.

Dunne stated that the investigation was “a broad and audacious scheme for illegal payments” in court on July 1.

As part of the Manhattan DA’s successful fight for Trump’s tax records, Dunne argued before U.S. Supreme Court.

Pomerantz is a former federal prosecutor who has experience in complex financial organised crime cases. He was hired in February 2021 by Cyrus Vance, former Manhattan District Attorney, to assist with the Trump investigation.

Attorneys involved in the case described Pomerantz as being intimately involved with grand jury proceedings.

Lawyers for Weisselberg and the company filed motions to dismiss Tuesday’s case. They claimed they were “improperly targeted…based upon political animus.” Trump is Republican. New York Attorney General Letitia Jones and Alvin Bragg are Democrats.

James is conducting a parallel civil investigation and won a victory on February 17 when a judge ordered Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka to sit for depositions.

Trumps lawyers claimed they feared that their depositions might be used in Manhattan’s criminal case.
