Metropolitan Police are currently investigating several parties believed to have been locked up in Downing Street.

Scotland Yard’s apparent inability to investigate potential violations of the Covid laws in Number 10 was a topic of concern. It seems that the threshold for doing so has been met.

Dame Cressida, Commissioner, appeared before the City Hall’s Police and Crime Committee today to confirm that the force launched an investigation into “numbers of events”, but she refused to identify the parties or how many were involved.

After information was passed to the Sue Gray inquiry, this decision which elevates the political crisis facing Boris Johnson reached a new level.

Although the Commissioner acknowledged that the Met wouldn’t normally investigate violations of Covid-19 regulations retrospectively, he confirmed that there were three elements that would allow for an investigation. These factors included the strength of evidence and whether the individuals involved knew they were breaking the law.

The Met is now investigating these illegal parties. It responds to the public’s demand for information.

It is vital that police are allowed to conduct their own investigations. Boris Johnson, Number 10, and Number 10 will continue to have problems with the Gray report.
