The third and minister vice president for the ecological transition, Teresa Ribera, has opened the door to reform the regulated light or PVPC rate to reduce its dependence on the electric wholesale market (POOL), which is currently at historic maximums after breaking its price
Record four days in a row.
“These days, we are seeing how there is an important demand from electric companies and organizations or sectors to introduce changes to the regulated rate, which is something we have to look for,” said Ribera in an interview in being collected by EFE
.
“However, we know that the regulated rates we have are cheaper than those of the free market, in which a premium is paid precisely to avoid volatility,” she added.
As explained by the Minister, the regulated rate has allowed the 10 million users to welcome it to have a discount on free market rates (in this case, 17 million people) precisely by that premium.
The problem is that, since it is expected that the wholesale market continues upwards, considers that a formula should be sought to make the regulation achieve a certain stability, since it currently depends on the volatility of the electricity market.
Thus, Ribera has pointed out different formulas that could be used to reform the rate, such as incorporating a fixed stretch “a little higher”.
He has also regretted that the European Commission rejects reforming the marginistic system for fixing prices.
This means that all technologies (ie, both renewable and non-renewable) are rewarded at the same price as the last used to cover the demand, which is usually a much more expensive gas than other energies.
In this sense, the third Vice President has remembered measures already taken by the Government to lower the price of the invoice, such as VAT reduction and has ensured that it is necessary to “continue looking for other elements within the European framework and the Spanish constitutional framework.
They allow to continue reducing things. ”
The price of light is located this summer at historic highs, with an average of almost 100 euros per megawatio hour so far from the month of August.
This week has been surpassing the highest price in history from Monday to reach 115.83 of this Thursday.
