CLIFFSIDE PARK — Police are looking for a woman who tried to carjack a mother and her 5-year-old daughter Thursday, prompting the lockdown of a nearby school.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. in the driveway of a Palisade Avenue home when a woman threatened the mother, Cliffside Park spokesman Bill Maer said Friday.

The carjacker allegedly got into the back seat of the car, where the 5-year-old was sitting, and claimed to have a weapon. Details of what transpired after the suspect got into the vehicle were not. The carjacker eventually fled.

As police searched for the carjacker, nearby School 3 was placed on lockdown, Maer confirmed.

“There never was any threat to the school,” said Maer. ” The school was locked down as a precaution.”

The woman and her daughter were not injured, Maer said. The lockdown was lifted after two hours.

Nearby surveillance footage captured the woman, who appeared to be wearing an all black hooded sweatshirt, as she fled the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
