The first elections of 2023 are just around the corner. Next Sunday, May 28, the municipal and regional elections are held. All the municipalities of Spain and 12 autonomous communities are called to the polls. The electoral campaign of 28-M will officially begin at 00:00 on Friday, May 12 and will end at 24:00 on Friday, May 26. However, it can be said that the process has already begun for those who want to vote by mail.

It should be remembered that Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and La Rioja are the communities that have an appointment on 28-M, as well as the autonomous cities of Ceuta and melilla. In other words, there are regional elections in all the territories except Galicia and the Basque Country, Catalonia, Andalusia and Castilla y León. Likewise, the festival of democracy on May 28 also extends to the entire Spanish territory with the municipal elections.

For those who cannot or do not wish to go to the polling stations in person, you can now request a vote by mail for 28M.

Voting by mail can be requested from April 4 to May 18. That is the term that voters who decide to vote by mail have to request a certificate of their registration in the corresponding Electoral Census, an essential requirement to be able to vote by correspondence.

It must be taken into account that if the vote by mail is requested and the request is accepted, the voter will no longer be able to vote in person at the corresponding polling station on election day.

You can request a vote by mail in two ways:

As of May 8, the provincial delegations of the Electoral Census Office will send applicants, at the address indicated on the form, all the necessary material to vote by mail. This is the documentation sent to the voter:

Once the documentation is received at the address indicated in the application:

On election day, Correos will send all the envelopes containing the votes by mail to the polling stations between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Once the voting is over and before carrying out the scrutiny, the table will introduce the voting envelopes received by mail in the ballot box.

In the following link we detail how to vote from abroad for the municipal and regional elections of 28M.
